Spatial Analysis

GIS improves communication by allowing people to better visualize their environment, understand spatial relationships and support storytelling

Dr. Kim Baldwin found GIS and spatial analysis is useful to integrate and visualize ecosystem based information for MSP planning initiatives such as the Pedro Bank, Jamaica.

Spatial analysis can be applied to create ecosystem-based information and support informed decision making. GIS allows for the integration of data layers to help us explore patterns that occur between and among habitats, resources and relationships between resource users. Spatial analysis aids the development of scenarios and evaluation of trade-offs to allow us to determine the spatial allocation of the sea in a way that maximizes societal benefits and mitigates possible conflicts.
